Hey everyone, I thought it'd be great to have a thread dedicated to sharing our experiences with local gun shops. What makes a shop trustworthy for you? Have you come across any hidden gems or had some not-so-great experiences? I know some folks are really particular about used gun selections and transfer fees, so feel free to mention those too. If you've got a favorite shop that you think others should check out—especially if they have reasonable prices or great customer service—let's hear it! Location would be helpful too. I have found that J&K, on Pulaski Highway in Havre de Grace, to be a very good shop. Three guys that are friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. Very good prices and a large selection of handguns, rifles, and shotguns.

Hafers has the best selection in the area and they have a 2nd store in WV with free transfer to the MD store. An Academy Sports store just opened and some pricing isn't that bad but they have a limited selection of S&W's.

For most of my ammo needs, I make the short trip to Rural King in Chambersburg, PA. The prices there are hard to beat especially when they have sales going on.

Genesis Firearms is right across the bridge in King George VA. You can take possession of your mags in VA and do your transfer at several Southern MD shops.

Great customer service at Hanover Armory near BWI. They don't look down at you if you don't know much or even if you think you know everything.

I live near columbia sc so I usually go to Palmetto State Armory. They carry pretty much everything I need.
