Considering the current ammo options and the latest parts, is there still any advantage for a 16" barrel when using a carbine-length gas system?

A lot of builders still stick with carbine gas systems because the parts are easy to find and the setups are straightforward. Reliability was a big reason those systems got popular in the first place.

In my opinion, carbine gas still works fine. It might not be the latest trend but it’s simple, proven, and gets the job done without much hassle.

Not really..on a 16", carbine gas mostly just means higher pressure and harsher cycling without real benefits.
