Hope everyone's having a good time here!

I'd love to know, what’s one hunting mistake you’ll always remember? Maybe it was that moment your scope went busted, or you realized the boots you wore were totally wrong, or perhaps you spooked the game way too soon. I’d love to hear your stories. Let’s swap some lessons and have a good laugh along the way!

I’ve got one story that still frustrates me to this day. It was about 4 years ago, right at the start of bow season. I had been watching this gorgeous 8-point buck all summer on my cameras. I thought I had his movements all figured out.

On opening morning, I was settled in my stand way before sunrise, everything was set up just right. The wind was perfect, I was quiet, and I was feeling pretty confident. Then, around 7:30, I finally saw him strolling through at about 35 yards. My heart was racing. I drew back my bow, settled my pin right behind his shoulder, and everything felt just right... until I realized I hadn’t turned on my sight light!

It was still pretty dark under the trees, and I honestly couldn't see my pins clearly enough to take the shot. There I was, standing at full draw like a complete fool, squinting and trying to see through my sight while my arms began shaking. I had to let down, and by the time I fumbled around and got my light switched on, he was already disappearing into thicker cover.

I’ve replayed that shot in my head a thousand times. Now, I always make sure to turn on my sight light before I even think about nocking an arrow when it’s low light, that was definitely a lesson learned the hard way.
