I’m heading to a gun show this weekend and it’ll be my first time buying a pre-owned firearm. My friend told me there are certain things I should keep an eye on but he didn’t really explain it well. What are the key things to inspect when checking a secondhand pistol or rifle? I wanna make sure I don’t end up with a lemon on my first buy 😅

Take your time, check bore, function and fit, most mistakes happen when people rush or get talked into it.

Since this is an old post, I hope you made the right call.

Just in case, here are few things to do: Inspect the bore, slide or bolt movement, trigger feel and any rust or cracks. Also verify serial numbers and overall fit. In summary , don’t rush, there’s always another option.
