Planning a trip to visit family and trying to figure out the best route. Bringing a firearm is throwing a wrench into my plans, especially with New York in the mix. I really want to avoid any trouble there, but skipping NY adds a crazy amount of time to the drive. I'm curious if anyone else has faced this situation. What did you end up doing? I'm open to suggestions if there's a good way to navigate this.

Transport according to FOPA. Cased, Unloaded, Separate from ammo. Don't answer questions and never consent to searches.
 
Yeah, that's tricky, New York's gun laws are super strict. I've rerouted around the state before to stay legal, even if it adds time. Have you looked into if your carry permit or a locked case setup would work legally through NY?
