Can ticks actually help with anything in nature?

I've been reading about different creatures and their roles in ecosystems, and I can't help but wonder if ticks serve any purpose beyond being pests. Do they play a role in the food chain or something? Would love to hear what you all think!

Its crazy you bring this up about ticks. We just had a meeting last week at work with safety man. It was about ticks, spiders, snakes etc.. at work. I work on the Army base and over 80,000 acres of wilderness. Ticks all over and many species. I have found Lone Star ticks on me and same day deer ticks and others. We have thousands of turkey here and I watch them go through the grasses and weeds like the Guinea's do. Turkeys eat many ticks and bugs and not just berries. We get so many ticks on us and a few of us have got lime's disease from them. We have a building with people that just test these insects for you after you remove them from you. Takes one day and they get back with you. Last Friday the military and these scientists were doing surveys on ticks and also testing a bunch of them. I watched them spread the tall 3-4' tall grass and they used these flags with white material on handles to brush through the grass. I was amazed at how many dozen were on each flag per swipe. They were all over.
