Thread protectors

Do thread protectors really serve a purpose, or are they simply excess baggage?

I always keep thread protectors on when nothing’s mounted. I learned the hard way after dinging some threads once. It’s a simple step that saves a lot of hassle down the line.

I used to ignore thread protectors until I messed up a set of threads. After paying to fix that, I never leave them off anymore.

They’re boring until you need them, then suddenly you’re very glad your threads didn’t get chewed up.
